Coronavirus – Temporary Screening Measures at DC Clinics

Dear Valued Client,

Re: Coronavirus (2019‐nCoV)

DriverCheck has been closely monitoring the impact of the novel Coronavirus (2019‐nCoV) outbreak and the evolving risk to the public, our employees, and our facilities. On Thursday, January 30, 2020, The World Health Organization (WHO) declared that this outbreak is a global health emergency, however, national, provincial, and municipal Public Health agencies have determined the current risk to Canadians to be low.

In response to daily information on the details about the virus, its virulence and spread, including the number of international cases, and the evolving global risk, DriverCheck has taken steps to mitigate the impact this new and emerging outbreak has on our staff and operations.

EDIBLES, EXTRACTS, and TOPICALS – Oh My…..

On October 17, 2019 cannabis edibles, extracts, and topicals became legal in Canada. However, due to the requirement of licenced producers to provide a 60-day notice to Health Canada, Canadians did not see these products available until mid-December.

Employers have had many questions regarding the new products and DriverCheck wanted to provide our clients with the information they need to navigate through this new space.

Opioid Use & Workplace Safety | Fitness for Duty Summit Series

Substance abuse and opioid expert, Dr. Iris Greenwald, Medical Review Officer with DriverCheck, presents on opioid use and workplace safety.

Dr. Greenwald examines opioid use, abuse, dependence, drug testing options in the workplace, and fitness for duty concerns employers may be facing.

A key takeaway from Dr. Greenwald’s presentation:

“Make sure, as an employer, you know what you’re asking for in terms of drug testing and make sure you know how you’re going to handle the result, whatever it may be.”

Cannabis in the Workplace, 1 Year Later | Fitness for Duty Summit Series

During this presentation, Dr. Snider-Adler addressed what has happened since cannabis legalization, and what we can expect when edibles become legalized for adult consumption in October 2019.

Vital takeaways from Dr. Snider-Adler’s presentation include:

“We do not have all the answers; in fact, we don’t even have all the questions… cannabis is not a linear and predictable drug like alcohol… and just because it may be medically authorized does not mean it’s safe in the workplace.”
