Online Training: Privacy Awareness in Healthcare Refresher Training (Alberta)

Prerequisite course: Privacy Awareness in Healthcare Training (Alberta)

This course is designed as a refresher for staff in Alberta healthcare settings who handle personal health information and have already taken the Privacy Awareness in Healthcare Training course.

This course supports organizational integrity and patient safety by reinforcing legal obligations under the Provincial and Federal Privacy Legislation. Strong compliance training helps prevent misconduct, reduce liability risks, and ensure the responsible handling of personal health information across all levels of care.

Privacy Awareness Refresher for Alberta fulfills the HIA’s annual training requirement through a structured, quiz-based format. Developed by privacy expert Jean L. Eaton, the Refresher consists of an introduction and review, followed by a series of quizzes to test the learner's knowledge of topics covered in the original course. The learner also has access to the original course modules and resources to refer to as needed. This approach ensures focused reinforcement of key privacy principles and legislation.

Upon completion, participants receive a personalized, printable certificate to support compliance documentation. The Refresher helps organizations maintain a culture of accountability and readiness, protecting both patients and practices from privacy breaches and regulatory risks.
